Choir

Palmerston Place Church has a long tradition of choral music. The current choir numbers 10 regular singers, who range in age from student to octogenarian.

The choir plays an important part in the worship at many Sunday morning services, the thoughtful singing enriching the services and helping those present to focus on God and His goodness. As well as leading the congregation’s singing and helping the congregation to learn new songs, the choir often sings an introit at the start and an anthem towards the middle of the service. The choice of music varies from the traditional to the modern, with old favourites featuring alongside newer pieces.

Practices are held on Sunday mornings at 9.50am when the choir is singing. We also meet for a few Thursday evenings before special occasions. New members are made most welcome. You don’t need to read music to join (since we’ll be glad to help you learn!): just an ability to sing and a desire to use your musical gifts to bring glory to God.

There are occasional opportunities for singers in the congregation to augment the choir for special services, such as the “Nine Lessons and Carols” service at Christmas. At other times we have welcomed friends from the choirs and congregations of North Leith Parish Church and St Stephen’s Comely Bank Parish Church for a special evening service. Once a year we have a joint morning service with our neighbours across the road from St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral (taking turn about to host and visit).
